In the past, most people signed up on their own. We can assign you a roommate if you would like us to. People drawn to O2 Yoga tend to be friendly, fun, and considerate...just like you! You will find as much quiet, private time and as much social time as you desire.
Maya Tulum is a romantic place -- beautiful and enchanting. This trip is a great opportunity to strengthen or renew your relationship as you share the experience. Some people also go with an old friend and enjoy the time to reconnect away from their busy lives.
All classes will be taught in the O2 Yoga style. This is a vigorous form of yoga based on the Astanga yoga system. There will also be Astanga Primary Series and, if requested, Second Series classes. We do not offer gentle yoga. For more information about O2 Yoga's style, please go to our About Us page.
There is no doubt you will be challenged. It is definitely a good idea to take some vigorous yoga classes before you go to make sure you like this style before you commit. However, this is a great opportunity to begin and learn. Some students started their practice at the last trip and were excited and in great shape to continue once they got home.
Definitely! Mimi teaches for all levels, and offers an invigorating, challenging class for anyone, even the experienced student. She gives modifications for all postures, from beginning to advanced. You will try new postures and sequences as well as have the opportunity to practice lots of yoga with no cell phones ringing or daily responsibilities to distract you.
We have two 2-hour classes each day. Most people choose to attend either the morning or late afternoon class, while some attend both. You may also skip a day if you need a break or decide to take a day to explore Maya Tulum.
There will be two O2 Yoga instructors during each week of the retreat. O2 Yoga Founder Mimi Loureiro will be there for both weeks. The second experienced O2 Yoga instructor for each week will be announced at a later date.
Most are separate cabanas with one or two beds in mosquito-netting (although we found few actual mosquitoes). The floors are tiled and the rooms have electricity. The power generators go off at about 11:00 pm, and all the rooms have candles if you haven't fallen asleep yet after your long day of fun, sun, and yoga.
Maya Tulum is on the Atlantic coast of Mexico, about 90 minutes south of Cancun. It has none of Cancun's highrise hotels, nightclubs, or commercialization. It is in a fairly pristine area a few miles from the town of Tulum and the breathtaking Tulum Mayan Ruins.
It is best to fly directly into Cancun and by-pass Mexico City if possible to avoid any delay in the larger airport's customs area. From Cancun airport, a shuttle van from the resort can be arranged to pick you up. You are responsible for finding your own flight to Mexico.
